Midway Congregational Church steeple.

Fleming, Margaret, and Caleb Conyers at Midway

Emma and Kate took a nap Saturday courtesy of the swing. Right now they can both fit snugly into it together. They are officially only 1lb different in weight. Emma seems to be catching up quite nicely.

We had a very good weekend. Friday night, we left the girls with Jenny's mom and went to the opening of a gallery in Old Town. I love black and white photography.
Saturday, we "slept in" until 11. Sleeping in is different now though because I help feed Emma while Jenny feeds Kate. It would be great if they made canned sleep... I'd drink a few hours every morning. I did a little yard work and then hung out with my daughters (still sounds strange). Its a little strange going from a couple to a family of four.
Sunday, I left Jenny and the girls with Jenny's mom and went to a family reunion at Midway Congregational Church in Midway, GA. Saw some family, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Showed some pictures and took some and then headed home. Its strange that with a church service so set on being true to historical significance would feature interpretive dance to Charles Wesley's "Spirit of Faith, Come Down." I have one thing to say to the self proclaimed minister of music, "you're fired!"

Here are the much anticipated pictures. Enjoy!

WE'RE HOME!!!! Emma Grace was discharged from the hospital today and we are overjoyed to get her out of the hospital! She weighed 3lbs 7ozs. Kate lost some weight since her birth. At her pediatritions appointment she weighed 4lbs 9ozs down from 4lbs 12ozs when she was born. I will probably be posting pictures online later today. That probably goes without saying for those of you who know me though.

Hello all. Thought I'd post while I'm at the hospital. Have to post from the medical library.
Kate is at "home" now. We are staying in a hotel room so that we can be close by. Emma is now taking every feed by bottle now. That was her choice. We came in at 11PM last night and she had pulled out her feeding tube (good girl Emma) and ripped the tape off of her mouth. So, rather than put the tube back in, the nurse just fed her by bottle. My esteem for her went up 4 fold.
Hours later, we were told that she had ripped Kate's picture off of the isolet and was holding it or eating it or something. She has ripped her heart and respiration probes off. Her umbilical cord is gone. We think that it's quite possible that was her doing also. She is very energetic when she wakes up and is ready to eat.
Jenny came in and told me that the nurses wanted to do her carseat test today. They have to sit in the carseat and keep good blood oxygen level for an hour. She doesn't fit though. They said there is just too much room in the carseat for her.
So, we are having a pretty good day today. Maybe this week will be as uplifting as last week was dramatically heartwrenching.

Hello all. Just wanted to update any of you who haven't heard yet and are depending on technology that isn't available to me.
We have two baby girls now: Kate was born at 6:21 and Emma was born at 6:22 on Wednesday, April 13, 2005. Kate was 4lbs 12ozs; 17 1/2"long. Emma was 3lbs 1.9ozs; 16 1/2". Kate was discharged today and will be leaving to go to the hotel with us. Emma is in the Special Care Nursery trying to gain weight and sucking power to get out of this horridly disorganized and non-mom and dad oriented place. We don't yet know when she will be all ours quite yet and it is very difficult for us so keep us in your prayers!
Its official, we have daughters (and very little sleep).

Here is the morning update. The nurse practitioner called this morning to say that we have a 60% chance of Kate's lipid test coming back positive and thus a 60% chance of having the twins tonight. We are supposed to be waiting with our shoes on at 2:30 for the test results. That is all.

We got a call from the nurse practitioner tonight telling us that Kate's amniotic fluid came back negative on the protein test that tells us whether her lungs are properly developed. What this means, we cannot tell you. There is another test from the same amniotic fluid that will come in tomorrow afternoon, which will tell us some lipid ratio concerning lung development that is more precise than the first test. Supposedly, this ratio is what the doctor will look at to decide whether he delivers Emma and Kate tomorrow (Wednesday) or the next day (Thursday) or possibly (Friday). Its all rather aggravating for Jenny, as she would rather just be told date and time.
So, the short of it is this: we don't even know the day that the girls will be delivered currently because Kate flunked a test. Hope this isn't the start of a trend.
News update: Emma wasn't getting the bloodflow she should through her cord. The doctor has moved delivery up to tomorrow at 5:30PM. Thats all for now. Everyone is happy.
Good morning race fans... just FYI: Jenny has an appointment this afternoon at 2PM. Its just the typical thing where they watch Emma and Kate to see if they move and score them on breathing, moving and other things that I can't recall. They also check their fluid levels (they can't top them off like Jiffy-Lube can though.)

So, interestingly enough, we installed the car seats yesterday in the Subaru Forrester. Well, I guess that isn't that interesting. The interesting part is the fact that we had to cram ourselves into the car this morning for church. It is a really tight fit. The Forrester is definately not made for carseats or Americans. In fact I'm kinda thinking that the Japanese folk who make it would have a hard time working with it, too.
That would be why we started shopping for minivans today. Yes, we have bitten the bullet and are trying to find a van to replace the two trucks we have. If you know anything about the Windstar, the Odyssey, or the Caravan and clones, let us know. You can email or leave "your two cents" below.

So, I guess I'd better update this thing for all you fans of Emma and Kate. Jenny and the girls had their appointment today. All was well. All they did was a Body Physical Profile and a cord doppler. Jenny said that Emma's cord doppler looked as if it was getting a more normal flow this time (Jenny's opinion was not confirmed by anyone). It is still considered an
abnormal but still isn't "absent."
I took Jenny to Duke's bar-b-q in Ridgeland for dinner. Its better cooking than I can do and more variety. Fattening those girls up is our main priority. We then went to Walmart and I took Jenny for a spin in her complimentary wheelchair. Unfortunately, there is a reason Jenny is on bedrest though and she started having contractions every 5 minutes. We got home and she laid down and they stopped. Other than that everything is good.
So, keep those prayers (and phone calls) up. We greatly appreciate them.

We are back from our last growth appointment before the girls are born. Everyone seemed to be doing okay, however we definitely have two very small little girls. Kate weighed in at 4 lbs 5 ozs and Emma weighs 3lbs 6ozs. Emma is below the 1st percentile on a growth chart comparing babies at the same gestational age. What does this mean you are asking... It puts Emma at some risk for problems when she is born you can do your own search for info on Small for Gestational Age (SGA) babies rather than me listing things. The doctors feel that right now no change needs to be made in the plans for delivery and they will continue to monitor the girls for any signs of distress or other problems. Please keep us all in your prayers.

Not sure which of these I like the best, so I'll post both!

Happy Springtime...

The latest belly picture. As you can see, we are really growing these girls. Enjoy!!

We have finally made it to April. A month that felt like it was never going to come... We had a doctors appointment yesterday and everybody checked out okay. Emma is still having blood flow issues, but they are happy that she is continuing to score well on her twice a week test that measures movement, heart rates, breathing etc. Their fluid levels remain a little low, but at this point they are not concerned about this. Bed rest continues, but at last the end is in sight. We have officially been scheduled with labor and delivery for our C-section -- April 19th at 9:30 am. It is very exciting to actually know an end date. They say the only reason that this date might be sooner is if Emma's blood flow gets any worse which they feel will not be an issue in the next two weeks. So thats our update for now. We ask that you keep praying for us all, for it is definitely only by the grace of God that we have made it this far.
